Comms-It Rt!
Our Applied Learning Programme (ALP), Comms-It Rt!, is designed to nurture students into confident and empathetic communicators. Through a structured progression of communication skills, students go beyond presentations to engage in civic discourse, learning to communicate effectively with diverse audiences. Ultimately, we empower them to become agents of change, using their voices to advocate for the greater good of the community.
Developing Communication Skills Across Primary Levels
Lower Primary: Expressing Ourselves with Respect and Kindness
At the foundational level, students learn to observe, respect, and share ideas in a safe and supportive environment. They develop essential skills in:
Speaking confidently and kindly – Using respectful words and expressions in conversations.
Non-verbal communication – Understanding how facial expressions and gestures enhance their message.
Active listening and turn-taking – Learning to engage meaningfully with their peers.
Middle Primary: Exploring Perspectives Through Drama
Building on foundational skills, students engage in speech and drama to develop storytelling abilities and empathy. Key areas of focus include:
Perspective-taking – Understanding and relating to different characters and viewpoints.
Sensitivity to non-verbal expressions – Recognizing emotions conveyed through body language.
Bridging fiction and reality – In Primary 4, students shift from fictional storytelling to real-life narratives, exploring meaningful stories from their surroundings.
Upper Primary: Becoming Changemakers
As students gain confidence in communication, they take on the role of active changemakers, using language as a tool for advocacy. They explore:
Building a culture of compassion within the RVPS community.
Raising awareness about social issues or underrepresented groups in the community.
Applying communication skills to create meaningful impact through presentations, campaigns, or initiatives.
